How Historical Christians Took Over Cities… And How We Can Again – Part 2

Christian History “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” Hosea 4:6

The courageous Christian Pilgrims and Puritans established new, totally Christian, towns and cities in the 17^th and 18^th century all along eastern America. Out of the wilderness they cleared the woods, built log houses, defended themselves against raiding Indians, and built a Christian civilization.

Virtually all colonial constitutions declared that their colonial was established for the glory of God, to advance the Kingdom of God and the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. The civil leaders would all swear on the Bible as being Christians and believers of the inspired Old and New Testament. All the civil leaders had to be Protestants and in good standing in their church. Most of the early American villages and towns were actually started from a single Protestant congregation from the same church, as those coming to America on the Mayflower.

Most of the civil judges were also church elders, as they were considered fair, just, and knew well God’s Biblical civil Law, which was the established law in virtually every colony. For generations, in Massachusetts, it was illegal for attorneys to practice law. The citizens were to know their Bible Law and represent themselves if they were tried for anything. There were very few books in private circulation, but most every home had one Bible… and daily prayer and Bible reading was common for most American families.

No wonder divorces were virtually unheard of, even into the 20^th century. And virtually all families stayed together. Crime was so low towns had no police forces, not even until the 20^th century. When justice was needed it was fair and very swift. Towns were generally peaceful. The modern western movies give a warped picture of most of society even in the 19^th century. There were no such thing as homeless people. Until the 20^th century, most everyone worked and most everyone prospered.

Towns openly honored the Lord Jesus Christ, the Bible, and followed God’s moral civil Law. In the colonies Jesus was literally considered King of kings over all civil leaders, just as the Bible declares. As a result of all the above, the Lord God of heaven and earth blessed America unlike any other nation ever before in the world, just as God promised in the Bible (Deut. 28):

“If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully keep all his commands… the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the world. ² You will experience all these blessings if you obey the Lord your God… the Lord will make you the head and not the tail, and you will always be on top and never at the bottom.

Despite no nation being perfect, because America so honored the Lord Jesus Christ and the Bible unlike any other nation in the world, from its inception in the 17^th century through most of the 20^th century, therefore God blessed America unlike any other nation in the world. But starting in the 1960’s and increasingly so to this day, America has turned away from the Lord Jesus Christ and His Word (Deut. 28):

¹⁵ “But if you refuse to listen to the Lord your God and do not obey all the commands and decrees… all these curses will come and overwhelm you… ²⁰ ‘The Lord himself will send on you curses, confusion, and frustration in everything you do, until at last you are completely destroyed for doing evil and abandoning Me. ²¹ The Lord will afflict you with… wasting diseases… ²⁴ The Lord will change the rain that falls on your land… ²⁵ ‘The Lord will cause you to be defeated by your enemies… You will be an object of horror to all the kingdoms of the earth…

⁴³ “The foreigners living among you will become stronger and stronger, while you become weaker and weaker. ⁴⁴ They will lend money to you, but you will not lend to them. They will be the head, and you will be the tail!

⁴⁶ These horrors will serve as a sign and warning among you and your descendants forever. ⁴⁷ If you do not serve the Lord your God with joy and enthusiasm for the abundant benefits you have received, ⁴⁸ you will serve your enemies whom the Lord will send against you…

⁴⁹ “The Lord will bring a distant nation against you from the end of the earth, and it will swoop down on you like a vulture. It is a nation whose language you do not understand, ⁵⁰ a fierce and heartless nation that shows no respect for the old and no pity for the young…

⁵⁸ “If you refuse to obey all the words of instruction that are written in this Book, and if you do not fear the glorious and awesome name of the Lord your God, ⁵⁹ then the Lord will overwhelm you and your children with indescribable plagues. These plagues will be intense and without relief, making you miserable and unbearably sick…”

Sadly today, as America has been turning away from the Lord, as the Bible says, the Lord has been turning away from America. Unless Americans, reflected in who they vote to represent them, repent, and turn back to the Lord, only then will the Lord their God bless them again. God will make no exceptions (Gal. 6:7-8):

⁷ Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. ⁸ Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.

If we don’t know our Christian history, much less our Bible, we have no hope of knowing where or how to go from here. As Solomon declared (Prov. 29:18):

“Where there is no vision the people parish: but he that obeys the Law, happy is he.”

“No vision” is interpreted as God’s “revolution”, and most specifically – he that obeys God’s Law. There we have it: Without God’s Law = perish! Obey God’s Law = happiness!

Americans, U.S. Founders, and especially early Americans and their Founders (Pilgrims and Puritans), contrary to the revised history taught in schools today, they were a peaceful, colorful, and very happy people on earth!

Just as God transforms individuals to make them happy if they turn to Him, no less so does God make a blessed and happy nation if it turns to Him – establishing and following His moral civil Law – His Ten Commandments, Statutes, and Judgments.

Honest American history has abundantly proven this to all be true… and specifically according to God’s Law in Deuteronomy in the Bible. With early Americans looking to God and the Bible, out of a hostile wilderness they built the greatest nation on earth ever!

In Part 3, even more relevant to us today, were the European Forerunners to our early American Founders. They are more relevant because in 16^th century Europe, out of pre-existing hostile godless governments and cities, these Christians saw transformed one city after another from the kingdom of darkness to the Kingdom of Light – the Kingdom of God and the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 28:31). In Part 3, we’ll look at them, and how and why they were able to do that.
