Are Christians Responsible for the State of the Union?

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”

Hosea 4:6

Hi Friends!

Below are the results of your Opinion Poll:

  1. Will the United States continue downward to suppress and persecute Christians? 97% were a 10 – fully YES.
  2. Are Christians responsible for the degenerate state of our nation? 50% were a 1 – fully NOT. Only 2% were a 10 – fully YES.
  3. Can Christians turn our nation back to God? About 50% YES & 50% NO.
  4. Will the United States turn back to God? About 98% NO.
  5. What time period/s of Christian history are you most interested in? This was varied – all over the board – from B.C. to present. But the HISTORY OF EVERY NATION clearly manifests GOD’S LAW via cursing’s or blessing’s.

My opinion: In #1 and #4 – what the vast majority said, historically this has been the case. But the opinions of #2 and #3 are what I think are most in need to understand.

Are Christians responsible for the degenerate state of our nation? Biblically, I believe is exclusively yes – 100% YES! Genuine, born-again Christians are the only ones responsible for the fall of our nation – not the Left Socialist’s, immoral Democrat party, nor the number of Left leaning Republicans. Nor has this been caused by the many other institutions that now have become so godless – media, entertainment, schools/universities, or any wicked immoralists who demonstrate or prance in our streets.

But genuine Christians are also the only ones responsible for America’s glorious greatness – from American’s beginning in the 17th century well into most of the 20th century – we were the greatest nation in the world, unlike any others. Even so, only genuine Christians are also responsible for not maintaining our national integrity and honor.

God promised national blessings when a nation follows His Laws (Deut. 28), but also national curses when a nation violates His Laws (Deut. 28). This is stated in many ways and places in Scripture:

  • Prov. 29:2: When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice. But when the wicked are in power, they groan.”
  • Prov. 14:34: Righteousness makes a nation great, but sin is a disgrace to any nation of people.”

What most people don’t know, and sadly most Christians today as well, that ALL nations rise and fall, based ONLY on how close or far they are in following the Lord’s Mosaic Law. ALL God’s prophets declared this for ALL nations not just Israel. EVERY Bible Prophet’s Book proclaims this regarding other nations. Some of the Books were written exclusively regarding other nations. And Jesus said the Mosaic Law is for every generation, forever (Mat. 5:17-19).

In the Bible God ordained 3 Institutions, none of which He has annulled: the family, the nation, the church. Whatever God institutes belongs to God and for His purpose and glory. NONE of these Institutions did God ordain for the devil or his control. The Lord ONLY allows the devil to control any of these institutions IF family leaders, national leaders, or church leaders don’t honor the Lord and His Law-Word.

God’s civil government Institution is designed ONLY for the righteous to rule:

Rom. 13:3-4: “For rulers are not a cause of fear for good behavior, but for evil. Do you want to have no fear of authority? Do what is good and you will have praise from the same; for it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword for nothing; for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil.”

God only allows the wicked to take power in any of His Institutions when the righteous do not follow His Law-Word, or in the case of many nations as in America, when the righteous have abdicated their God given civil mandate to rule, as seen in Romans 13:1-4. Only righteous rulers are God’s definition for civil authority per Romans 13:3-4.

Hear also what God says:

  • Ez. 22:30: “I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn’t have to destroy the land, but I found no one.”
  • Jer. 5:1: “’Run up and down every street in Jerusalem,’ says the Lord. ‘Look high and low; search throughout the city! If you can find even one just and honest person, I will not destroy the city.’”
  • God says the same thing for ANY nation, not just Israel:
  • Jer. 12:17: “But any nation who refuses to obey Me will be uprooted and destroyed. I, the Lord, have spoken!”
  • Jer. 48:42: Moab will be destroyed as a nation because it defied the Lord.”
  • Gen. 18:22-32: The other men turned and headed toward Sodom, but the Lord remained with Abraham. Abraham approached Him and said… , ‘Suppose you find fifty righteous people living there in the city—will you still destroy it and not spare it for their sakes?… Suppose only ten are found there?’ And the Lord replied, ‘Then I will not destroy it for the sake of the ten.’”
  • Jonah 3:1-10: “Then the Lord spoke to Jonah a second time: ‘Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh and deliver the message I have given you.” … 10 When God saw what they had done and how they had put a stop to their evil ways, He changed His mind and did not carry out the destruction he had threatened.

Contrary to what some people teach about God’s sovereignty, the Bible does not teach that God from some arbitrary mysterious “sovereign” way goes around destroying nations. There are literally hundreds of verses in Scripture, not to speak of what God’s Law itself declares (Deut. 28), making it clear on what grounds nations have been, or will be blessed or cursed. The Bible says His Law is eternal (Ps. 119:160). And Paul said (Gal. 6:7): Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant.” God wants us to know His ways… for us as individuals as well as for all 3 of His institutions – family, church, and nation!

Now this is really good news for us when God tells us the problem and the solution! That means with His power He wants us to fix it… and therefore can! He has super-powered us for this and all things:

  • Greater is He that is in us than he that is in the word” (1John 4:4).
  • For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith(1John 5:4).
  • “Behold, I am with you to the end of the age(Mat. 28:20).

So it’s clear, to have any of God’s Institutions good, we must have godly/good leaders– for a family, the father, for a church, the pastor, or for a nation, the ruler. There are only two categorical ways possible this can be accomplished for a nation. We’ll look at that in the next Christian History.

All things possible with Jesus! 😊
